ClearCorrect is a tried and proven orthodontic system that uses clear aligners to correct orthodontic issues. Unlike braces, the aligners are removable, so you can eat comfortably and take better care of your teeth. At the same time, it requires you to take more responsibility for the success of your treatment.
At Ridgewood Dentistry, we offer ClearCorrect to teens and adults in Ridgewood and Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Dr. Warren Boardman shares the following tips to help you get the most from this treatment:
You’ll need to remove the aligners for eating and brushing, and flossing your teeth. All other times, they should be on your teeth! Strive to wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day. Removing your aligners more than necessary or leaving them out for long periods can impact the effectiveness of your treatment.
For your aligners to work properly, they need to fit snugly on your teeth. Sometimes air bubbles or gaps occur when putting the aligners in place. These can be eliminated with chewies. Biting on chewies “seats” the aligners firmly against your teeth so they can apply the pressure needed to shift your teeth into alignment.
You’ll be given a series of aligners for your treatment and a schedule for their use. Your schedule will alert you when it’s time to switch to the next aligner set in your series. Switching on time maintains the momentum of moving your teeth to keep them steadily progressing toward your smile goals.
Always remove your aligners for eating. This includes snacks, meals, and beverages other than water. Drinking hot beverages with aligners can warp them, making them less effective at straightening your teeth. Dark beverages like coffee or tea can stain the aligners. You may need to adapt your eating and snacking habits to accommodate aligner use.
ClearCorrect aligners make oral hygiene easy, as you simply remove the aligners to brush and floss your teeth. To reduce the risk of decay, Dr. Boardman suggests you brush and floss after every meal. Good oral care habits will keep your teeth in great health during and after your orthodontic procedure.
Use a soft bristle brush and clear liquid soap to clean your aligners daily. Rinse them with warm water (never hot!) every time they’re removed. Several times a week, soak them in the aligner cleaning solution for a deeper clean. Store your aligners safely in their protective case when not in use.
Dr. Boardman will schedule dental visits every 6 to 8 weeks. These appointments help us monitor your progress and determine if adjustments are needed to achieve better results from your procedure.
